Supplements
TLDR - Everyone is trying to sell you something to fix your problems. If you follow the foundational recommendations then in most cases, you will eliminate the need to buy something. If you still need something to bridge a gap as you heal, there are many options available.
Expanded
Supplements are a multi billion dollar industry. Companies invest heavily in marketing, often making bold claims about the benefits of their products. This creates a sense of urgency and desire, leading consumers to believe they need these supplements to achieve health. The reality is that many of these supplements target very specific biochemical processes in the body and may not address the root cause of your health issues.
The Foundations
Before exploring supplements, it's crucial to understand and be following many of the foundational health practices discussed in previous posts. These practices help restore balance naturally. If you follow the foundational items for a few months, then you may be able to reduce or completely eliminate many of your supplements.
Everyone is Unique
Each person's body is unique so supplements do not work the same for everyone. Our bodies are complex systems of biological processes and when they fall out of homeostasis, disruptions occur, and this leads to symptoms. Supplement companies often market their products to address specific symptoms, but the reality is more complicated. Supplements impact specific biological or biochemical pathways, and it’s uncertain whether these pathways are the actual issue for you. Taking supplements can be hit or miss in terms of effectiveness and in some instances you may not tolerate the supplement at all.
Supplements also only alleviate symptoms rather than address the core problem. This is like placing a band aid on the issue, and if the underlying problem remains unresolved, additional symptoms may arise. This shows the importance of the foundational practices which provide broad support and benefit most everyone.
The Many Supplements
If you follow the foundational health practices and still find yourself struggling to achieve homeostasis, it might be worth exploring supplementation. There are countless different supplements and below are a few examples of what I have used. Please reach out if you have any questions.
