Nutrient Dense Eating
TLDR - The primary purpose of eating is to obtain nutrients that fuel biological processes (energy production, cellular function, etc). The more nutrient dense foods you consume, the more fuel you provide for these processes, thereby supporting your “body battery.”
Expanded
Different foods contain varying levels of nutrients, which are the building blocks your body needs to function properly. When you consume nutrient dense foods, you provide your body with the essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients required for these processes. If you do not eat nutrient dense foods, this can lead to deficiencies and a continuous feeling of hunger as your body seeks to satisfy its nutritional needs.
Consuming inflammatory foods alongside nutrient dense foods can make your body less efficient at utilizing the nutrients you consume. Inflammatory foods require your body to expend more energy to sort out what is beneficial and what is harmful. This inefficiency can result in the loss of some good nutrients as your body works to eliminate the bad ones.
Example
If you eat a nutrient dense salad with a highly processed dressing that causes digestive issues, your body will work to eliminate the harmful components of the dressing. In the process, it may also eliminate some of the beneficial nutrients from the salad. This reduces the overall nutritional benefit you receive from the meal.
The same principle applies to food sensitivities and difficult to digest foods. It's important to identify and eliminate triggers to ensure you're absorbing optimal nutrients from the foods you eat.
