Dental Health
TLDR - Your mouth is connected to the rest of your body. A stressor in your mouth could be an overlooked contributor to an issue in another part of your body.
The Danger Response of Poor Dental Hygiene
An unhealthy gut microbiome can trigger an internal danger response throughout your digestive tract, and similarly, poor dental hygiene can set off a danger response in your body. When you neglect your oral health, harmful bacteria can proliferate, leading to gum disease, tooth decay, and infections. These issues can cause inflammation not just in your mouth but throughout your body, contributing to systemic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and even respiratory infections.
The Meridian System
Our bodies are interconnected in many ways, one of which is through the meridian system. This network of energy pathways runs throughout the body, with many meridians ending in the mouth. When there's a stressor or issue in your mouth, it can manifest in another part of the body along these meridian lines. For example, a dental infection could potentially contribute to chronic headaches or digestive issues.
Diet
Your diet plays a significant role in your oral hygiene. Consuming a diet high in sugars and refined carbohydrates can promote the growth of harmful bacteria in your mouth, leading to cavities and gum disease. A diet rich in whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, proteins, and healthy fats, can support a healthy oral microbiome. Foods high in fiber can help clean your teeth, and those rich in calcium and phosphorus can strengthen your enamel.
Removed Teeth and Root Canals
When teeth are removed or root canals are performed, they can sometimes lead to cavitations (pockets in the jawbone where bacteria can thrive). These hidden infections can go unnoticed for years, silently causing chronic inflammation and contributing to various health issues. It's important to monitor and address these potential problem areas to maintain overall health. It may be helpful to work with a biological dentist to identify if this could be an issue for you.
Fluoride
Many dentists promote fluoride for its cavity preventing properties, but it's essential to consider the bigger picture. While fluoride can help strengthen tooth enamel, excessive exposure can be harmful to the rest of the body. Fluoride has been linked to various health issues, including thyroid dysfunction and bone problems. It has also been shown to decrease your bodies EZ water.
Braces
If you had braces when you were younger, you might think your dental issues were resolved. However, braces often address the symptoms of misaligned teeth without tackling the root cause. Misaligned teeth can be a result of structural issues in the cranium. If the core problem isn't addressed, simply moving the teeth can lead to further complications later in life. It's essential to consider holistic approaches that address the underlying structural issues to ensure long-term dental and overall health.
